One of the main reasons for these rings to be priced lower is the name of the store that is selling them. You pay for the big name stores and you pay for their advertising in every piece of merchandise you buy from them. Another big reason may be the grade of gold that the ring is fashioned from. Gold comes in different karats and it is rated by the concentration of pure gold that it has in it. The higher the gold concentration is the more the item will cost. That does not necessarily mean that the higher the gold concentration is the longer the item will last.
You can also look for used sets at pawnshops and thrift stores. Some pawnshops will have exceptional pieces and the items they have may have once caused ten times what the pawnbroker is asking for them. This can be an excellent way to get a set that is made of higher quality materials without paying the high price for them. These types of stores will not be able to size the ring to fit so you may wind up carrying the item to a jeweler to have it sized.
